PC 273.5 specifically refers to Corporal Injury on a Spouse, Cohabitant or Fellow Parent. PC 273.5 punishes the crime of inflicting bodily injury on:
-Your current or former Spouse;
-A person with whom you live or have lived with;
-The Mother or Father of your child.
PC 273.5 typically begins with a family argument that becomes heated and physical. Often times the neighbors call the police without your knowledge to report a domestic disturbance. Once the police have been called for a domestic violence matter there are no choices whether charges will be filed.
Domestic Violence is a serious charge and requires an aggressive defense. It can result in jail time, time away from your family and a domestic violence charge permanently on your record.
