What is the Substance Abuse Assessment Unit or SAUU? By Daniel Smith

If you or a loved one are charged and convicted of a DUI or related crime it is probable that you will be required to report to the Substance Abuse Assessment Unit (SAUU) at the courthouse your case was out of.  SAUU will assess whether additional conditions to your probation are required.  When reporting to SAUU you will be required to answer a brief questionnaire which will contain questions regarding your habits when it comes to drinking alcohol and drug use.  SAUU can and will require you to do additional AA or NA classes if they feel it is necessary.  SAUU will also point you in the direction to register for Public Work Service and the MADD program.
