Domestic Violence
The term Domestic violence is also referred to as domestic abuse, spousal abuse, battering, family violence, and intimate partner violence (IPV). The broad definition comes doen to a pattern of abusive behavior by a partner (or both) who form an intimate relationship. This can mean marriage but it is not limited to that type of intimacy. It can be applied by the prosecutor to cases involving dating, family, friends or even cohabitation. Many behaviors qualify as domestic violence, which can be physical aggression (hitting, kicking, biting, shoving, restraining, slapping, throwing objects).
